‘IPVanish’ is another VPN provider which has received a ton of hype from the VPN community since opening in 2012. They are one of the youngest VPN providers in the industry, but have grown incredibly fast, offering a similar quality of service as other big VPN brands such as ‘Hide My Ass!’ and ‘ExpressVPN’.
‘IPVanish’ offers an impressive forty-seven countries to choose from, though doesn’t hold the crown for most support countries- that crown goes to ‘Hide My Ass!’. It offers VPN’s from the most popular countries for streaming Netflix and iPlayer- European countries and US countries- as well as countries which have greater privacy laws for online users.
As with most top tier all-in-one VPN providers, you can do unlimited country switching on ‘IPvanish’. I often found myself switching between US and european countries for streaming from netflix so that I could access all of the TV shows that Netflix offer. With unlimited bandwidth you can also get ‘IPvanish’ set up on your HTPC, enabling you to stream all the media you could ever want.
‘IPVanish’ offer the three main protocols used by mostly all VPN providers in the industry: PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN. We recommend the use of OpenVPN for speed and compatibility. See our guide here for more information.
‘IPVanish’ is, without doubt, an incredibly fast VPN provider. I tested a range of countries with different internet uses: streaming, torrenting, gaming and general browsing. Even though streaming and torrenting are the more bandwidth intensive uses, I didn’t experience any lag or buffering.
If you select a server with a low ping, you are very likely to max out your connection. More details on this feature can be read in the client section.
For gaming and general browsing, the ping was above average and I was surprised that even the distant countries weren’t as slow as expected. Naturally, when you connect to a VPN server that is far away from you, the data has to travel further and thus you experience a slower connection. However, the speed reduction was not detrimental.
Usually I disconnect from a VPN when I’m not specifically using it, but with ‘IPVanish’ I would forget that I was still connected because I didn’t feel that there was any effect on the speed. This is how a VPN provider should operate; it should keep you protected without impacting on your internet activity.
Installation and Configuration
‘IPVanish’ installation was a breeze and no different to any other windows application. They have taken a very different approach to their client design; it is extremely bare-bones and minimal. Where it lacks the polish of it’s competitors clients, it makes up for in simplicity. The application design isn’t ‘IPVanish’s strong point, but these are tangible benefits that may not concern a lot of users. The majority of users would like to get connected to the fastest server in a specific country and get on with whatever they were doing.
Connecting to ‘IPVanish’ VPN network was very quick and very rarely did I receive any sort of error.
‘IPVanish’ are very competitive in terms of pricing, and seem to be aiming straight for ‘Hide My Ass!’s market. Their twelve month package works out at just $6.49/month which makes it very good value for money when you take into account how fast ‘IPVanish’ network actually is. I highly recommend, if you’re media streaming or demand a fast connection, that you purchase the twelve month package.
‘IPvanish’ offer live chat, forum and email channels. I was able to get very fast response times (
Once you’ve used ‘IPVanish’ for a little while you will probably have no need to contact them for any reason, but reassurance would be there if they were available every of the week. Hopefully, ‘IPVanish’ will change this in the future.
When you’ve reviewed a lot of VPN providers you realise what features are the most important to running a VPN service that stands out from the rest. Speed is so crucial that VPN providers usually invest a lot of money and resources into their VPN network. This is what stands out with IPVanish, the speed is spectacularly fast and makes the service extremely good value for money. Although the client isn’t as nice looking as other VPN clients out there, this is a minor issue that can be easily forgiven when considering the fast VPN connection you get. I highly recommend you check out ‘IPVanish’.IPVanish,
